Not every dental complaint requires immediate action. To help you assess whether your situation constitutes an emergency and how to respond appropriately, we have outlined the most common scenarios below.
Find the dentist currently on emergency duty in your area. Outside of emergency service hours? Call the free health hotline 1450 (available around the clock) or go directly to your nearest emergency department.

An avulsed (knocked-out) tooth can be saved if the right steps are taken immediately. Place the tooth in a tooth rescue box, available from your local pharmacy. Alternatively, it can be stored in cold UHT milk or saliva. Handle the tooth by the crown only – the root must not be touched. Do not rinse, clean, or wrap the tooth in a tissue. Seek dental treatment immediately.
